Study Description
Objectives
Anti-icing and road weather information systems (AI/RWIS) were new tools developed by the Strategic Highway Research Program designed to improve the efficiency of winter storm maintenance operations and as a result, improve highway safety. Because these were new concepts, standard training programs for all levels of AI/RWIS users were not available. This project coordinated and leveraged several individual training and education initiative into one consistent training program for AI/RWIS.
Comments
Development of the software package started in the fall of 2001 and was completed in 2003. The AI/RWIS Computer-Based program was updated in 2008 to reflect new chemistry and operational techniques. Subsequent additions were made to the Computer-Based training program to include completed National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) project 6-13 ¿Selecting Snow and Ice Control to Mitigate Environmental Impacts¿ (April 2009) and NCHRP 6-17 ¿Performance Measures for Snow and Ice Control Operations¿ (April 2010). The AI/RWIS Computer-Based training program is currently being converted to an Internet Browser Format and SCORM Complaint (Sharable Content Object Reference Model). - (3/29/11).
