Objectives

Evaluate the GeoGauge developed by FHWA, the Department of Defense's Advanced Research Programs Administration, and the Humboldt Manufacturing Company. The GeoGauge measures directly and rapidly the stiffness (resistance of a layer of material to deformation) of soils, soil aggregate mixtures, and stabilized soil mixtures. Status Initiation of project and solicitation and obligation of funds by Study Partners. Check out related article - "Pooled Fund Study to Validate Geotech Device"; - in the February 2001 R&T Transporter. (PDF file - 388kb)

Comments

Active. A meeting was held with state representatives in November 2000 to finalize plans for conducting the research. A gauge has been purchased for each state and they have all been trained on its use. Task studies have also begun involving physical experimentation and analytical analysis, which they hope to have completed July or August 2002.(updated 2/4/02) The project is still accepting new state partners.
