Not all necessary evaluation and testing can be included in the NCHRP Report 350 program, and some devices may be unique to a region. The Roadside Safety Analysis and Test Program will fill the need for prompt responses, and will address regional interests. The intent is to supplement current evaluation programs and provide faster responses to urgent regional safety needs.
The objective of this program is to provide the technical resources to evaluate, and if necessary, test candidate hardware products intended as solutions to roadside safety issues; and to address roadside safety needs. This program will serve states that are regional to Ohio so that a quicker response to urgent regional problems may be provided to the member states.
The Principal Investigator (PI) will establish a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). Each project partner will have the opportunity to have a technical expert serve on the TAC. The roles of the committee will include attending annual and/or semi-annual meetings where problem definitions and prioritization will take place. The committee will subsequently review program reports, annual reports, project deliverables, and final reports, and will assist in implementation activities. The PI will coordinate and host the TAC meetings.
A contribution of $40,000 is recommended, but other levels of participation are also welcomed. Ohio anticipates starting this study as soon as possible. Please contact us with any questions or comments.
