Objectives

Vision Statement: Provide state-of-the-art analytical tools for use in the decision-making process to identify and manage a systemwide program of site-specific improvements to enhance highway safety by cost-effective means. The Analytical tools developed as part of a software package will help decision makers identify safety improvement needs to develop a systemwide program of site-specific projects. The specific tools being developed include: (1) network screening to identify sites with promise; (2) diagnoses of safety problems at specific sites; (3) selection of appropriate countermeasures; (4) economic appraisal of candidate improvements; (5) priority rankings of candidate improvements; and (6) evaluation of safety improvements.

Scope of Work

For details of the SafetyAnalyst project, please refer to the web link below.

Comments

The white papers outlining the technical approaches to each of the four SafetyAnalyst modules were completed in December 2002. The four modules are 1) Network Screening, 2) Diagnosis and Countermeasure Selection, 3) Economic Appraisal and Priority Ranking, and 4) Evaluation of Safety Improvements.
