This pooled fund project developed the constructability scheduling software called CA4PRS. The effort also included the trained of personnel from the states of California, Minnesota, Texas and Washington on the use of this software. These four states now see the need to enhance this software to include additional construction options that could not be included in the original development.
The objective of this study is to enhance the existing CA4PRS software with a broader range of construction options that would include dowel bar retrofit, mill and fill HMA, continuous reinforced Portland cement concrete, and others. The effort will also include the development of a complete users manual and improvements to the program to make it more user friendly. Finally, each of the participating states will be trained in the use of the enhanced software.
The elements that are included in the scope of work are very briefly summarized below: 1. Development of a Users Manual 2. Enhance the user friendliness of the software, debug the software, and convert language to generic terms from existing Caltrans terminology. 3. Add more rehabilitation strategies and features and various types of highways (urban and rural) and 2 lane options. 4. Train the personnel from each state in the use of the enhanced software. A complete proposal is attached as a link. Please note that the work plan indicates Versions 1.5 and 2.0. This pooled fund effort only includes the work described under the Version 1.5 option.
The only states eligible to join this pooled fund are those that are members of the State Pavement Technology Consortium (SPTC) that has the project designation SPR-3(074). The total needed to fund this project is $210,000. The contribution required from each of the four states currently officially* involved in the SPTC is $52,500, which can be split into increments of $26,250 for the each of the years 2004 and 2005. *One additional state is expected to officially join the SPTC as soon as funding becomes available. They may also contribute to this pooled fund project. If they elect to do so adjustments will be made to the contributions requirements of the other four states to evenly distribute the costs.
