Objectives

To establish the state of knowledge regarding wind-induced vibration of stay cables on long-span bridges. To synthesize all information available on known problems with in-service bridges and effectiveness of countermeasures. To develop guidelines for wind-resistant design of new cable systems and procedures for implementation of countermeasures to stabilize in-service cables.

Comments

A TAC Conference Call was conducted on 12/09/04. (See minutes for summary of meeting). The consensus of the TAC was to have Missouri DOT publish an interim final report on the study. The TAC also agreed to hold a conference to present the findings of the interim final report. A subcomittee is in the process of planning this conference. The next TAC conference call is planned for March 10, 2005 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. CST. (Updated 2/04/05)
